ROCK YOUR SMILE !!!
Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children's Dental Health Month. This is to raise awareness about the importance of oral health and to fight against tooth decay. This years campaign slogan is ROCK YOUR SMILE.
To support this great cause, we found it important to get involved with the community schools.
We feel that developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. We were well received! Our goals were to teach children in the community how important it is to take good care of their teeth and gums in a fun way and to give them the necessary tools to achieve this. In addition to accomplishing our goals we had a really fun day with the kiddos!
Debbie (our scheduling coordinator) and Kristy (our hygienist) went to the school classrooms. Debbie, a former preschool teacher, read "Quacky and Jackie." This is a wonderful board book about siblings who learn how to brush their teeth from the superhero Robobrush and the wise old owl :) This book is a wonderful start wonderful start with your small child to make brushing a fun and positive experience!
Kristi used an over sized model of teeth to demonstrate proper brushing and flossing. She reviewed complete oral hygiene instructions. They proceeded to play and game about good foods/bad foods and then finished with question/answer time. The kids were great!

One hundred goody bags were given out. Each child received : a brush and toothpaste, stickers, pencils, Quacky and Jackie flossers, and a brochure for the parents on how to maintain good oral hygiene with their children.
This was a huge success and we plan to
make this outreach bigger and better each year!
