New Patient Appointment
Dentistry of Indiana
Do you know what you should expect during a New Patient Dental Appointment?
From the time you enter the reception area to the time you leave, we strive to help you feel most comfortable with the environment, staff and services given.
If you haven't already had the chance to fill out your paperwork, you may do so in our spacious reception room. Once completed, you may take advantage of the variety of magazines at your fingertips. It is one of our goals to have patients seen by the doctor as soon as possible so feel free to bring a magazine back with you!
At Dentistry of Indiana, your new patient appointment will be with the doctor. If you have current radiographs, those can be released and sent to us for review upon your signature. Otherwise, we will update your radiographs with bitewing and panoramic digital radiographs. The doctor will proceed to get to know you and your concerns. We owe much of our success due to getting to know our patients. Your concerns are our top priority as we build a trusting relationship.
We proceed to review your medical and dental history. Any concerns or questions that you may have will be addressed throughout the appointment. If there is anything that we may do to help make your new patient appointment more comfortable for you, please let us know! We strive to help you feel at ease and informed about your dental health.

Periodontal disease (gum disease) is a common cause for tooth loss. It is very important that we examine the gum tissues as well as the teeth. Healthy gums are important to good overall health in addition to having a good foundation for your teeth. We will detect healthy gums, gingivitis and periodontal disease if present. There are a few types of 'cleanings' that are performed in a dental office. The type that is necessary relates directly to the health of your gums. We will review the health of your gum tissues and explain the causes and prevention of gum disease.
The doctor will perform an oral cancer screening along with a TMJ (temporomandibular joint) evaluation.
If there is necessary treatment, we will explain what we are concerned with and what is recommended to correct it. Photos, models and diagrams are used to educate you and make you fully aware of the procedures that are recommended. A comprehensive treatment plan is organized and your options are reviewed with you. For the anxious patient, we may discuss ways to make your experience anxiety free and more relaxing!
Typically we are able to perform a routine cleaning the same day. However, if there is a lengthy treatment plan and multiple issues to review, we may utilize our time discussing options and have you back for your cleaning at your next visit.
Once you feel comfortable with the treatment procedures recommended and understand the necessity, you may have questions regarding price or insurance coverage. Our Scheduling or Financial Coordinator, Debbie or Sue respectively, retrieve your benefits and give you a best estimate of what we would expect your insurance to cover for each individual procedure. They are very detailed and good about getting the best estimate. You will feel comfortable knowing what to expect at each visit.
